Hell is other people
Tuesday, May 24, 2005BBC News: Sisters give birth at 12, 14, 16 The Williams sisters, who live with their mother in a council house in Derby, feature in a BBC3 documentary called Desperate Midwives. You see? That's what I'm talking about. Humanity is a thing worth fighting for whereas actual people make you long for an asteroid strike. It's like being Rorschach in Watchmen. But wait, there's more. The three babies are called Amani, T-Jay and Lita. T-Jay? Jesus, I'm this close to advocating a eugenics programme. The mother of the three sisters said: I don't care what people say about me. I blame the schools - sex education for young girls should be better. Now, I've got two young daughters and may very well be made to eat these words at some point in the next 15 years, but did this woman never mention to her daughters what might happen if they let a boy put his dingle-dangle in their frou-frous? No "where babies comes from" chat? No "if you can't be good, be careful" schtick? No "all men are dogs and are to be treated as such" polemic? No "there are better things to do at 12 than let a boy fuck both you and then your life" bedtime story? Schools can't stand over children 24 hours a day to stop them rutting with each other. Neither can parents, but if I create an environment for my children where either of them has nothing else in their lives at age 12 than to let the paperboy satisfy his foetid lust at their expense then I've clearly failed as a father. And anyway, boys at that age will have sex with anything. What do they need girls for? In other news: BBC News: Two hurt in mock light sabre duel Two Star Wars fans are in a critical condition in hospital after apparently trying to make light sabres by filling fluorescent light tubes with petrol. You see what I'm getting at? |

On May 24, 2005 3:12 PM,
You know, some people find it quite hard to talk to their kids about these things. My mother never really spoke to me about it, and my dad was never around - so I was left to my own devices (not that I went around shagging, but the less said about my uneventful childhood the better)...
To absolve yourself entirely of responsibility is a bit rich though.
On May 24, 2005 3:47 PM,
I love Watchmen.
Time to put on the mask, Justin.
On May 24, 2005 5:13 PM,
They're making a watchmen movie. Bet it sucks. Like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
"some people find it quite hard to talk to their kids about these things"
Because raising children is supposed to be easy and fun for you, and anything that isn't, you don't have to bother with, right?
Finally, Justin, "rutting" has come in a two posts recently, have you been reading "I am Charlotte Simmons"? It's based on my university.
On May 24, 2005 6:48 PM,
katie: of course not; of course she should have taken some steps when they were still young. but there still seems to be a mental barrier with talking about sex with kids...
On May 24, 2005 7:20 PM,
Katie: Nope. Bill Hicks.
Can you calm down on your rutting just for a couple of seconds until we figure out this food-air deal?
All hail Hicks.
On May 24, 2005 8:05 PM,
They're making a watchmen movie. Bet it sucks. Like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Hard to imagine them being faithful to the story, but anything's possible. Terry Gilliam was originally signed up to direct, but the financing never materialised. That's a huge shame. He would have done it properly.
On May 25, 2005 3:13 PM,
At 11 please, not 12. The middle one had already had an abortion and two miscarriages before bringing her little treasure into the world and the eldest has a child by someone older than the mother.
My question is, if they get £31k a year between them, pay no rent etc and the mother claims her shopping is £90 a week....what happens to the other £26 grand?
Oh and the other question....isn't under age sex illegal? Maybe some plea bargain, pay the maintenance or go to jail?
On May 26, 2005 5:05 PM,
Something's seriously wrong when slags in council estates are earning more money popping out a child than I do for working as a paralegal. Let the asteriods fall.
On May 26, 2005 5:59 PM,
Anonymous at 5.15pm, don't be so stupid.
None of us think this should have happened in the first place, but now it has let's live in the real world and recognise that leaving these children to starve is not an option available to a civilised society.
£31k sounds like a lot of money, but it has to pay for two adults, two teenagers and three toddlers. About 10k of it is childcare fees, because rightly the government recognises that the route out of poverty is education, and without childcare teenage mums can't get educated. The 10k goes from the learning and skills council direct to the nursery or creche, never coming into contact with the family - every young mum under 19 in education can get it, it's not just for poor people.
So, that leaves 21k for everything else - about the level of the average wage in the UK. Doesn't sound like the lap of luxury to me.
Chicken yoghurt, I've cited your piece in a couple of blogs over at my site on this issue - here and here.
On May 27, 2005 5:49 PM,
This is a direct result of the crazy benefits regime we have, pure and simple.
A moratorium should be announced. No more payments or accomodation for popping a sprog. It will not only save money but will reduce crime and social disorder and allow room in this country for honest hard-working migrants!
